Extraordinary and transnational
Our University Hospital is situated in an extraordinary building which satisfies all medical, technical and academic requirements. The building was built from 1971 to
1985 in several construction stages. It impresses patients and visitors with its unique concrete, steel and glass design reflecting the inspiration by the Technical University in Aachen, the RWTH.
However, the architecture of the building is not our only distinguishing factor. Our specific geographical location in the Euregio Maas-Rhein makes us unique as well: the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen is only two kilometres away from the Netherlands and five kilometres away from Belgium. This region at the intersection of three countries is one of the oldest transnational consortiums in Europe. There are unique opportunities here for multinational cooperations in the field of health services as well. The collaboration between the Academic Hospital, Maastricht (azM) and the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen has been especially prosperous. Both university hospitals provide for constructive exchange of highly specialized medical services. Beyond these transnational projects, we also work closely with rehabilitation facilities as important partners for the care of our patients after treatment in the hospital.
