Professor Marx has been the Head of the Department of Cardiology, Pneumology, Angiology and Intensive Care (Internal Medicine I) since 2009. He specialises in cardiac interventions in patients with coronary artery disease and has extensive experience in intensive care medicine.

Internal Medicine I is one of the largest cardiology departments in Europe. The equipment is technically state-of-the-art, both for diagnostics (for example for three-dimensional exposures in real time with ultrasound, X-ray, Dyna CT, cMRI) and for treatment of cardiovascular diseases (for example catheter laboratories with stereotaxis). Furthermore, the European Centre for Knowledge Exchange in Cardiac Imaging and Intervention was founded here as a cooperative platform for medical research and industry.
