Internal Medicine III

Medical Services

 

  • Diagnostics and therapy of acute and chronic liver and gall tract diseases (e.g. viral hepatitis, autoimmune disease and genetic liver diseases, metabolic liver diseases) including shunt procedures such as TIPPS and intensive care of instable patients
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures at the esophagus, stomach, intestines and gall ways including capsule video endoscopy and MR endoscopy
  • Treatment of malignant tumours of the gastrointestinal tract and the biliary tract (e.g. liver cancer, colon cancer, gastric cancer) including chemotherapy, selective chemoembolisation
  • Consultation and treatment for nutritional problems and morbid obesity

In September 2005, Professor Trautwein was appointed Director of Internal Medicine III with emphasis on gastroenterology, hepatology, metabolic disorders and intensive care. After completing his studies in Mainz and Tübingen, he worked at the Centre for Internal Medicine of the Hanover Medical School in the Department for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology, among other positions in the capacity of Associate Director. His expertise lies in the treatment of liver and metabolic disorders as well as gastrointestinal tumours.

The department offers its patients state-of-the-art medical and technical standards. The team has undergone advanced training and has a keen scientific interest. The staff members can communicate with patients from abroad in a variety of languages including English, French and Arabic. All services are planned in advance to enable effective coordination of outpatient and inpatient stays as well as discussion of treatment.
