Professor Neumann took charge of the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen in 2010. Before coming to Aachen, he was Assistant Medical Director at the highly reputed Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery of the Charité in Berlin. His specialities include liver transplantation and liver tumour surgery as well as complete oncologic visceral surgery. Optimised treatment protocols in these areas of focus are developed for each individual patient in close cooperation with other departments (i.e. radiology, internal medicine, radiation oncology).

The whole spectrum of state-of-the-art surgical procedures, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery as well as modern tissue dissection methods, is used. Three-dimensional image reconstruction and non-invasive liver function tests are regularly employed to ensure a precise operation strategy. A successful liver transplantation centre has been established in cooperation with the internal medicine departments.
