Internal Medicine II

Medical Services

 

  • In- and outpatient evaluation and treatment of all kidney and blood pressure diseases
  • All haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis modalities and continuous haemo(dia)filtration
  • Treatment of infectious dialysis patients with chronic hepatitis B, hepatitis C, etc.
  • Treatment of diabetes patients with kidney failure
  • Plasmapheresis, rheopheresis and immunoadsorption
  • In- and outpatient evaluation and treatment of all rheumatological and immune-mediated diseases (Lupus erythematodes, polyarthritis, Behcet’s disease)

Research Focus

 

  • Kidney diseases, especially chronic renal failure and glomerulonephritides
  • Cardiovascular diseases during chronic renal failure
  • Therapy after kidney transplantation
  • Therapy of immune-mediated diseases (in particular vasculitis and lupus)

Internal Medicine II has been headed by Professor Floege since 1999. Professor Floege studied Medicine in Hanover, Plymouth and New York. His interest in kidney disease evolved during research periods in Hanover and Seattle (USA). Before coming to Aachen, he was Associate Professor at the Hanover Medical School. Internationally, he has earned a high reputation for his engagement in various nephrology societies and as co-editor of well-known nephrology journals and textbooks.

The department benefits from the extensive contacts that Professor Floege maintains throughout the medical community as well as from his international prominence in the field. Foreign patients are frequently offered immediate continuation of their medical care at home through his personal contacts worldwide.
