Professor Jacobs has been Director of the Department of Vascular Surgery since 2005. Following his general surgical training at the University Hospital Maastricht, he specialised in cardiovascular surgery at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.
He was Chief and Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam from 1993 until 2000. He then accepted the Chair of Surgery at the Maastricht University Medical Centre in 2000 and has served both hospitals in Aachen and Maastricht since 2005.

The Vascular Centre is recognised as a national referral site for complex aortic procedures, especially for open and endovascular thoraco-abdominal procedures. The multilingual team (German, English, French, Dutch and Arabic) mirrors the international character of the department, which has extensive experience in interacting with foreign patients, authorities and insurance companies.
